Video: Levski Sofia coach resigns after fan confrontation

Levski Sofia manager Ivaylo Petev resigns after confronted by angry fans during his first press conference.

Levski Sofia manager Ivaylo Petev has stepped down less than a day after joining the club following an altercation with supporters.

The coach was confronted by fans, who accused him of having an allegiance to the the team's bitter rivals CSKA Sofia during his first press conference in charge.

"I thought over things a lot, listened to the opinions of my family, which is important," said Petev, who refutes the allegations.

"I'm not a criminal, I'm not a thief, but yesterday I felt exactly like that. What did I do to deserve this?"

The club's chief executive Nasko Sirakov has condemned the fans involved in the incident in which Petev had his shirt removed.

"This is not my Levski, and these are not our fans. It's a shame and a disgrace to the name of The Apostle (Vasil Levski)," he said.

Levski assistant coach Antony Zdravkov will now take charge of the team until the winter break.
