Roma boss Aurelio Andreazzoli admits that wasteful finishing cost his side dearly in a rare home defeat to Chievo on Tuesday night.

Roma coach Aurelio Andreazzoli has insisted that his decision to change formation did not contribute to his side's 1-0 defeat against Chievo last night.

The Giallorossi's hopes of securing European qualification suffered a severe blow at the Olimpico as a stoppage-time strike from Cyril Thereau earned all three points for the Flying Donkeys.

Andreazzoli has admitted that his side were wasteful with a host of chances as Pablo Daniel Osvaldo and Mattia Destro struggled in a reshaped attack.

He told Sky Sport Italia: "We had an idea on how to approach the match, but did not pursue the ideas throughout the game.

"In the first half we were stuttering in our build-up and should've tried to finish the game much earlier. In the final minute, we had this goal against the run of play. We didn't suffer much at the back, but we knew that Chievo were dangerous on the counter.

"It was a new situation and we wanted to test it out. We thought it would help open up more spaces, but we weren't smart enough to take advantage of that situation. In any case, we did create chances and could've made more of them."

Roma are clinging on in fifth place ahead of Sunday's trip to face AC Milan at the San Siro.
