Jonathan Walters: 'Republic of Ireland ready for massive Scotland clash'

Jonathan Walters says the Republic of Ireland "want revenge" against Scotland when they come face to face at the Aviva Stadium next week in a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier.

Jonathan Walters has declared that the Republic of Ireland will take on Scotland next week seeking "revenge" for their narrow defeat in the reverse fixture.

The Green Army slipped to a 1-0 loss against their Group D opponents at Hampden Park in November, with Shaun Maloney scoring the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time.

Ireland have drawn their last two outings, the most recent being Sunday's goalless draw against England, and Walters knows just how important it is to now pick up all three points against Scotland next weekend.

"We want revenge, of course we do," the Stoke City forward told The Guardian. "We need a win next week. It's a massive game and we're ready for it.

"I don't think we got threatened too much by England. I thought our set-pieces were really dangerous. Robbie Brady put some unbelievable deliveries in and we were unfortunate not to sneak a goal from one of them. It was quite a comfortable game in the end really.

"I don't think we got opened up too much or anything. We played pretty well and are quite happy with the performance. We were dangerous with the ball in different parts of the game. Players like Robbie and Aiden [McGeady] put in some great balls."

Ireland are fourth in their qualifying group for Euro 2016, although they are just three points off leaders Poland.
