Raul warns Xavi over Qatar move

Experienced Spaniard Xavi would be "playing at half-empty stadiums" if he moves to Al Sadd this summer, according to now New York Cosmos forward Raul.

Former Spanish international Raul has warned Barcelona's Xavi that moving to Qatar would be a major shock to the system.

Xavi is widely expected to leave Barcelona at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with a move to Al Sadd – a club that Raul represented between 2012 and 2014.

The now New York Cosmos forward has said that on many occasions, "there was no-one in the stands in Qatar".

"I got used to playing at half-empty stadiums at Al Sadd," Raul told Panenka. "There was no-one in the stands in Qatar. The atmosphere in New York made me all of a sudden feel like I was back at the Santiago Bernabeu."

Raul, who faced Xavi many times during his time at Real Madrid, won the Qatar Stars League with Al Sadd in 2013.
