Cristiano Ronaldo: 'I want to be one of the greatest players of all time'

Cristiano Ronaldo says that he has achieved something "incredibly unique" after being named as the winner of the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or.

Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has said that he wants to be viewed as one of the greatest footballers of all time after being named winner of the 2014 FIFA Ballon d'Or.

The 29-year-old won the vote ahead of fellow nominees Lionel Messi and Manuel Neuer to pick up the award for the second successive season.

"I would like to thank all of those who voted for me, my president, my coach and Real Madrid," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "It has been an unforgettable year. To win this trophy at the end of it is something incredibly unique.

"I want to continue to work as I have so far, to try and and win more titles, for my mother, for my father, for my son. To all the Portuguese people out there: I never thought that I would take this trophy back on three occasions. I want to become one of the greatest players of all time."

Ronaldo scored 54 goals in 60 games for his club and country in 2014.
