Marcelino: 'We were disrespected'

Villarreal boss Marcelino blasts those that questioned his professionalism for his team selection against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Villarreal boss Marcelino has blasted those that questioned his professionalism at the weekend.

The Spaniard took the surprising decision to name an under-strength XI for Sunday's La Liga clash at Real Madrid, with the Yellow Submarine having one eye on Wednesday's Copa del Rey semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

Marcelino has also seemingly prioritised the Europa League over La Liga this season, but his fringe players secured a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu at the weekend.

"It makes me angry when our professionalism or the decisions we make are called to account," he told Canal +. "The players who went out onto the pitch and had already proven their ability were not shown any respect."

Villarreal currently sit sixth in La Liga, just one point off fifth-placed Sevilla.
