Jese Rodriguez has thanked the Real Madrid supporters and his teammates for their support after learning that he will miss the remainder of the season with a serious knee problem.

The Spaniard damaged his knee ligaments in last week's Champions League win over Schalke 04, but has since undergone surgery in Germany and is now on the road to recovery.

"I really appreciate all the displays of affection I've received and I'm taking all the encouragement to make me stronger and return with more determination and do what I know, which is play football," he told the club's official website.

"I have to take it easy to recover. Now I'm better, the operation made an impression on me a bit because it was the first time I've had surgery.

"It went well and I'm already thinking about recovering, which is the important thing and the only thing I can change from the bad stuff that happened. The fans have always shown me special affection since I started playing in the first team and I'd like to thank them for that. Now I'm not going to play for some time, but I'm going to come back stronger."

It is believed that Jese will be on the sidelines for up to six months.
