Real Madrid ease past Cornella

Real Madrid beat third division outfit Cornella 4-1 in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-32 match.

Real Madrid have eased to a 4-1 win over Cornella in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-32 tie this evening.

Sami Khedira had the first chance for the visitors, but after connecting with James Rodriguez's cross, he could only direct his header straight at the keeper.

Madrid soon took the lead in the 10th minute when Raphael Varane powered in a header from Rodriguez's corner.

The hosts stunned their opponents by levelling the scores 10 minutes later as Oscar Munoz latched on to a flick over the top, before firing a strike past Keylor Navas.

In the 36th minute the visitors restored their lead as Varane arrived at the front post to meet Isco's corner and head in his second goal of the match.

Eight minutes after the break Madrid further extended their lead when Javier Hernandez found some space on the edge of the box and drilled a low strike into the bottom corner.

Marcelo rounded off the scoring with 15 minutes left to play as he slotted in from close range after Isco's strike had been parried by the keeper.
