Report: Alex McLeish wants Reading job

Ex-Birmingham City and Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish is reportedly interested in managing Reading.

Former Birmingham City and Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish is reportedly interested in the vacant manager's role at Reading.

The Championship side are looking for a new boss after parting company with Steve Clarke last week.

The former West Bromwich Albion head coach had presided over a run of just one win in eight league games and was dismissed by the Royals as a result.

According to the Scottish Sun, McLeish, who is currently out of work after leaving Genk in the summer, is interested in succeeding fellow Scot Clarke at the Madejski Stadium.

The 56-year-old, who spent a season at Genk, has previously managed in the Championship with Birmingham, in addition to a brief three-month spell at Nottingham Forest.

It is believed that he was in the running for the jobs at Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers before they went to Paul Lambert and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink respectively.

McLeish has also managed Rangers, Hibernian, Motherwell and the Scotland national team during his career.
