Mark Warburton: 'Rangers can do business in transfer window'

Rangers manager Mark Warburton insists that he is still looking at new players who could be worth up to £1m, despite the club's ongoing financial troubles.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has insisted that he will still be on the lookout for new players in the January transfer window, despite financial troubles at the club.

The Scottish Championship leaders recently revealed that it could take up to £2.5m of shareholder loans to see them through for the rest of the season, while Warburton himself played down the possibility of multiple new arrivals at Ibrox.

However, the former Brentford manager has now hinted that he would be willing and able to spend as much as £1m on a new player should the right man become available when the window reopens.

"Every player we have gone for so far we have secured and we are working closely with the board and the owner. Communication is first class," Warburton is quoted as saying by PA.

"We're in good shape and I'm sure we will get the players we are looking for. We will put forward players we think can add value. You can buy a player for £1m and it quickly becomes five. You can buy a player at £850,000 and two years later it's 550.

"It's about trusting your judgement and getting the right value for the club. If it's near seven figures and we think it represents good value, we will put it to the board. Absolutely."

Warburton has been linked to the vacant managerial post at Queens Park Rangers, but was quick to commit himself to his current club amid the speculation that followed Chris Ramsey's departure.
