Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton admits that he is "gutted" by Steve McClaren's appointment as Derby County manager.

Queens Park Rangers midfielder Joey Barton has admitted that he is "gutted" by Steve McClaren's appointment as Derby County manager.

The 52-year-old was named Derby's new boss on Monday evening following a three-month spell as a coach at QPR.

Barton tweeted: "Gutted Steve McClaren has left for Derby. Top coach. Big loss for us. Wish him all the best at a great football club."

McClaren has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract at Pride Park.
