Paris Saint-Germain spirit pleases Laurent Blanc

Laurent Blanc believes that his Paris Saint-Germain side are making good progress after beating Metz 3-2 to reach the Ligue 1 summit.

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Laurent Blanc has revealed that he was delighted with the mental strength shown by his players in Friday's 3-2 victory over Metz.

Modibo Maiga twice scored from the penalty spot to wipe out PSG's early lead, before Ezequiel Lavezzi secured the victory late on to send his side to the top of Ligue 1.

Blanc was always confident that his side would pick up the win, despite conceding that the champions are still not at their best.

"I was confident even after the equaliser. I said to myself that we would win 3-2," the PSG boss told reporters. "We controlled the first half well against a Metz side whose fear of us made them misfire, which made our game easier.

"At half-time it seemed like an easy match, but after the first penalty, Metz got back into the match and after that we struggled for a period.

"There are still faults in our game, and we won't fix everything in the space of one match, but we got the job done; we took all three points. In terms of our frame of mind, there has been progress, but certain players need game time to regain physical form, notably [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic."

Marseille will reclaim top spot from PSG if they can beat fourth-place Bordeaux on Sunday.
