Carlo Ancelotti describes Paris Saint-Germain's 1-0 victory over Montpellier as "beautiful".

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti has praised his team following last night's 1-0 victory over Montpellier HSC.

Kevin Gameiro scored the vital goal at the Parc des Princes to ensure that Les Parisiens stretched their lead at the top of Ligue 1 to eight points.

Ancelotti believes that the win will give his players confidence ahead of Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final clash with Barcelona.

"This is a very important victory in terms of the standings," the club's official website quotes the Italian as saying. "It also helps us prepare for Tuesday's match in the best possible conditions.

"We played well and showed an excellent attitude. In the first half was very good and we created a number of scoring opportunities.

"The second half was harder, but Gameiro ensured a beautiful victory."

Second-placed Lyon can cut the gap back to five points when they take on Sochaux at the Stade de Gerland on Sunday.
