Preston North End sign strikers Stevie May, Eoin Doyle

Preston North End sign strikers Stevie May from Sheffield Wednesday and Eoin Doyle from Cardiff City before the transfer deadline.

Preston North End signed strikers Stevie May and Eoin Doyle before the transfer window closed this evening.

Scotland international May has joined the Lancashire side from Sheffield Wednesday on a three-year deal, while Cardiff City striker Doyle moves to Deepdale on a season-long loan.

May joined Wednesday in August 2014 and went on to score seven goals in 42 appearances for the Owls, while Doyle moved to South Wales in January, scoring five goals in 16 games for the Bluebirds.

Speaking to the club's website, manager Simon Grayson said: "As soon as we knew Jermaine was out injured we felt that we needed to strengthen at the top end of the pitch.

"Stevie and Eoin are players that we've been after in the past and so when the option became available to be able to sign one permanently and one on loan, it was a great opportunity to go and get good players who will enhance the squad and obviously I'm looking forward to working with them.

"It's a long season, there's a lot of games and you've got to make sure that all of the players are fit and raring to go, so I'm just delighted to have these options, they are quality additions and provide good competition for places which can only be healthy."

Both strikers could make their first appearances for Preston against Derby County on Saturday, September 12.
