League One roundup: Leaders Bournemouth slip up as gap closes

Bournemouth's advantage at the top of League One is reduced to one point.

The gap at the top of League One was reduced to one point as leaders Bournemouth lost at Preston this afternoon.

Caretaker manager John Dreyer saw his side beat the Cherries 2-0 in the league's shock result.

Sheffield United and Yeovil capitalised, with both sides winning 3-0 at Colchester and Scunthorpe respectively. This was Yeovil's eighth straight league win as Paddy Madden scored for the seventh consecutive game.

Hartlepool moved off the bottom with Luke James grabbing a late winner in their 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient. The team they leapfrogged was Portsmouth, whose 1-1 draw with Carlisle meant that the South Coast club are 21 games without a win.

Elsewhere, prolific striker Leon Clarke netted his 17th goal of the season to give Coventry a fine 2-0 victory at Bury.

Results in full: Bury 0-2 Coventry, Hartlepool 2-1 Leyton Orient, Portsmouth 1-1 Carlisle, Preston 2-0 Bournemouth, Sheffield United 3-0 Colchester, Walsall 1-1 Notts County, Yeovil 3-0 Scunthorpe
