Portsmouth defender Gabor Gyepes is 'hopeful' of committing his long-term future to the club.

Portsmouth defender Gabor Gyepes has admitted that he is 'hopeful' of agreeing a long-term contract with the League One club.

The 31-year-old, who arrived on a free transfer in the summer, is currently on a month-by-month contract with Pompey in administration.

"Players get monthly contracts which are then renewed for another month. There are teams in League One where the players earn less but we have many players who have already played in higher leagues in better circumstances," he told origo.hu.

"The most important thing is the one-month-long contract. We're fighting for our life and cross our fingers not to be injured as a one-week absence can ruin your next contract. I hope the situation will change and I can stay here for a longer period.

"It's important to play well because I must go and find a new club if the situation doesn't change. If you're a good footballer then you'll have the chance to sign to a new place."

Portsmouth currently occupy 19th spot in League One.
