Late Portsmouth fightback not enough as Bournemouth walk away with the win

Portsmouth stage a late comeback against Bournemouth after trailing 3-0 at half time, but the Cherries hold out to win 3-2.

A late Portsmouth fightback was not enough tonight after they trailed 3-0 to Bournemouth before half time.

A James Dunne volley and Jed Wallace penalty were both in vain as Bournemouth walked out victors in a five-goal thriller at Fratton Park.

The Cherries took the lead early on as Tokelo Rantie got on the end of a Simon Francis cross with the ball squirming through Paul Jones's legs in the third minute.

The visitors doubled their lead as Brett Pitman got onto the score sheet after scoring from another cross to make it 2-0.

It got even worse for Pompey in the 36th minute as Harry Arter confidently found the net after Rantie dispossessed Danny Hollands to set up the midfielder.

Pompey got themselves back into the game when a volley from Dunne gave the hosts hope and only a couple of minutes after, the home side were awarded a penalty when Jack Maloney was tripped inside the box.

Wallace converted the penalty but Bournemouth held on to win the pre-season friendly at Fratton Park.
