Oldham Athletic edge 10-man Peterborough United in nine-goal thriller

Oldham Athletic recover from 3-0 down to beat 10-man Peterborough United 5-4 at Boundary Park this afternoon.

Oldham Athletic recovered from a three-goal deficit to beat 10-man Peterborough United 5-4 in what proved a thrilling encounter at Boundary Park this afternoon.

Posh coasted into a 3-0 half-time lead courtesy of goals from Britt Assombalonga, Tommy Rowe and Lee Tomlin.

However, the hosts threatened to make a remarkable comeback after Gary Harkins and David Worrall reduced the arrears early in the second half.

Nicky Ajose, who bagged a hat-trick in the 4-3 win over Notts County on Tuesday evening, restored the cushion for Darren Ferguson's men mid-way through the half, before Oldham hit back again through James Wesolowski to set up a nervy final 20 minutes for the visitors.

A straight red card for Tomlin on 86 minutes provided Lee Johnson's side with fresh impetus in their quest to restore parity, and the Latics capitalised on their numerical advantage in timely fashion as Harkins kept his cool and stroked a penalty past Joe Day in the closing stages.

There was yet more drama, though, as Genseric Kusunga pounced in the dying seconds to steal all three points and earn the most unlikely of results for the hosts.
