Burnley, Brentford 'battle' for Oldham Athletic defender James Tarkowski

Burnley and Brentford are reportedly doing battle for the signature of young Oldham Athletic defender James Tarkowski.

Oldham Athletic defender James Tarkowski has reportedly caught the eye of both Burnley and Brentford.

According to the Sunday People, Championship side Burnley want to add the 21-year-old as a back-up to help their bid for promotion to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Brentford of League One see him as an addition who could make an immediate impact in the first team.

The rumours surrounding Tarkowski come as he is said to be discussing the possibility of a new contract with Oldham.

He has made 71 league appearances for the Latics.
