Abel Hernandez atoned for his earlier penalty miss by giving Hull City a 1-0 half-time lead at Nottingham Forest with a close-range finish.

The Tigers had the better of the first stanza and eventually took the lead when Hernandez was alert to turn home a quickly-taken corner.

The Uruguayan could have had a hat-trick, having headed an early chance straight at Dorus de Vries and had a penalty saved by the Dutchman after Shaun Maloney had been felled by Forest defender Matt Mills.

In a lively first half, Mohammed Diame had the first sight of goal but the Tigers midfielder could only head Ahmed Elmohamady's cross straight into the arms of De Vries.

Chris O'Grady had the best of the chances for the home side, but his early effort from the edge of the area was comfortably gathered by Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

Diame then rattled the woodwork with a 25-yard drive only minutes after Nelson Oliviera had forced McGregor into a full stretch save with a long range effort which the Scot managed to force behind for a corner, before Hernandez eventually found the golden touch.
