Hughton has made it known that he is keen to bolster his defensive ranks and had recently been linked with a move for Blackburn Rovers centre-back Scott Dann.
However, Hughton is hopeful that he can tempt 29-year-old Ciani to Carrow Road, according to The Mirror.
Ciani has made 13 appearances in Serie A this season, scoring one goal in the process.
