Zinedine Zidane appointed manager of Real Madrid Castilla

Zinedine Zidane is appointed as manager of Spanish third division side Real Madrid Castilla.

Zinedine Zidane has been appointed as the new manager of Real Madrid Castilla, who compete in Segunda Division B.

The 42-year-old will take on the role with Real's 'B' team after spending a season alongside Carlo Ancelotti, who replaced Jose Mourinho as manager of the senior side last year.

During Zidane's stint as Ancelotti's number two, Real secured the Copa del Rey title, as well as the Champions League trophy after beating Atletico Madrid in the Lisbon final in May.

A statement on Real Madrid's official website read: "Zinedine Zidane will manage Castilla next season. Zizou, who was Carlo Ancelotti's first squad assistant coach this year, will start a new stage of his career at Real Madrid.

"Zidane will be joined by youth coach Santiago Sanchez and has already started working on future plans for the reserve team squad."

The former France international played for Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus and Real during his playing career, which ended in 2006.
