Japan defeated tournament favourites USA 3-1 on penalties in Sunday's Women's World Cup final to win their first World Cup.
The game finished 2-2 after extra time and despite being dominated for large portions of the match, Japan proved more prolific in the shoot-out.
Young defender Saki Kumagai scored the winning penalty after Ayumi Kaihori had saved two out of three American spot-kicks.
Alex Morgan had opened the scoring for the US before Aya Miyama equalised late in normal time.
Abby Wambach headed USA ahead in extra time but Homare Sawa ensured a penalty finish with a flicked effort at the near post.
Japan become the first Asian nation to win the FIFA Women's World Cup.
