Fabio Capello: 'Arsene Wenger turned down Diego Lopez advice'

Fabio Capello reveals that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger turned down his advice to sign goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

Fabio Capello has revealed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger turned down his advice to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez.

The Spanish stopper moved to Milan from Real Madrid during the summer after spending two seasons as the first-choice stopper at Santiago Bernabeu.

Russia coach Capello, who managed Lopez at Real, says that he recommended the 32-year-old to Wenger during his time as England boss.

"Diego Lopez is a good keeper and he will be good for AC Milan. For them to choose Diego Lopez, I am really happy," FourFourTwo quotes Capello as saying.

"I spoke with Arsene Wenger when I was with the England national team. I told him to buy Diego Lopez because he is good. He didn't have a problem but he said, 'My keeper is good.'"

Capello managed England between 2007 and 2012.
