David Bentley retires because he 'fell out of love with football'

David Bentley announces his retirement from football at the age of 29 because he fell out of love with football.

David Bentley has announced his retirement at the age of 29 because he fell out of love with football during the latter stages of his career.

The winger dropped down the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur following his arrival in 2008, which resulted in loan stints at Birmingham City, West Ham United, FC Rostov and Blackburn Rovers.

Bentley has revealed that he is now focusing on his family and ventures away from the game after losing his desire to stay within the sport.

"My life's gone in a different direction now and I felt like it was time to call it a day," Bentley told Sky Sports News. "The love of the game went a little bit and I didn't want to carry on."

Bentley also believes that the modern game has turned "robotic" and that "the money that's come into the game has made it boring and predictable".

The ex-England international began his career at Arsenal.
