Newcastle United are reportedly trying to fine Hatem Ben Arfa for gaining weight during pre-season.

Hatem Ben Arfa's future at Newcastle United has been cast into doubt following reports that the player is embroiled in a dispute with his employers over his weight.

The Magpies are trying to fine the French winger £1,500 for returning to work 1.5kg overweight after the summer break, according to The Mirror.

Ben Arfa, who will allegedly be left behind to train with the youth squad when his teammates embark on a tour of New Zealand next week, is said to have argued that he has gained muscle, rather than fat.

The news has fuelled rumours linking with Ben Arfa with a move away from Tyneside, amid reports that he recently rejected a move to an unnamed Ukrainian club.
