Rafael Benitez challenges his Newcastle United players to pick up five more points from their remaining Premier League fixtures.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has urged his players to avoid becoming complacent in their battle to dodge relegation from the Premier League.

The Magpies moved seven points clear of the dropzone with Saturday afternoon's 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town, secured through Ayoze Perez's close-range finish late on.

Benitez feared on the eve of the game that his players were a little too relaxed for the relegation six-pointer, but is happy to have seen them get the job done with a battling display and is now targeting five more points over the remaining six weeks.

"Forty points is the target, so we have to carry on. We are happy, but carry on," he told the assembled press after the match. "This week, we were training really well - apart from yesterday. I was not very happy because they were a little bit relaxed.

"But during the week, they were training well and you could see the competition between players and you could see that they understand what we have to do as a team.

"We were talking a little bit, but the good thing about this team is they understand and they care, so as soon as we were talking yesterday, but especially today, I knew from the way that they were talking between themselves that they were really focused."

Newcastle are now unbeaten in six straight home league games - their best such run in the top flight since December 2014 under Alan Pardew.
