Steve McClaren: "We kept fighting"

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren hails his players for the way that they battled back to claim a 3-3 draw against Manchester United.

Steve McClaren has praised his Newcastle United players for the fighting spirit that they showed during tonight's 3-3 draw with Manchester United.

The hosting Magpies trailed 2-0 and 3-2 at St James' Park, but they rescued a share of the spoils thanks to Paul Dummett's last-minute strike.

Speaking to BT Sport after the final whistle, McClaren said: "People said that United were boring and that we lack character - but we kept fighting until the end and we have got a goal that feels like a winner.

"People thought it would be a 0-0 and it was a classic at 3-3. It must have been a great game for the neutral. It was a heart attack for the coaches."

Prior to the game Newcastle had not scored a goal since December 19.
