Alan Pardew reveals that Yohan Cabaye is suffering from a groin injury, which forced him to take the midfielder off in the 2-1 defeat to Reading.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has revealed that Yohan Cabaye has suffered another injury setback.

The France international continued his comeback by starting and scoring in the Magpies' 2-1 defeat to Reading this afternoon.

Cabaye's superb free kick gave Newcastle the lead before he had to be withdrawn in the second half, much to the anger of the St James' Park crowd. However, Pardew has explained that his midfielder has a groin problem.

"We had to take Cabaye off because of an injury, that brought negative reaction from the crowd and that spread around," Pardew told Sky Sports News.

"We need some impetus. We have lost Demba Ba and Cheik. We have got Cabaye back, but he is just on the first stage of his comeback. We needed him towards the end of the game.

"He said he was struggling with his groin. I did not want to take him off, but when a top player tells you he's injured you listen to him."

Newcastle now sit just two points from the relegation zone.
