Steve McClaren: 'I need three transfer windows to sort out Newcastle United'

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren suggests that it will take three transfer windows for him to get his squad in order.

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren has suggested that he will need three transfer windows to bring the squad up to scratch.

The Magpies, who spent over £52m on new players in the summer, are 19th in the Premier League after failing to win any of their opening six games.

McClaren has said that he is working alongside managing director Lee Charnley and chief scout Graham Carr to revise the club's transfer policy.

"We have talked about spending in January," McClaren told the Daily Mail. "We have said this is about three windows.

"With the start, people will obviously criticise the first window, but the people we've signed are all good players. They need time to adapt to the Premier League.

"We know that January is coming up and it will be important. We talked as a club with Lee and Graham and said we are going to review the window in a couple of weeks, and the position in January."

Newcastle host Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the League Cup this evening.
