John Carver: 'I didn't see Papiss Cisse, Jonny Evans spitting incident'

Newcastle United manager John Carver denies seeing the alleged spat between Papiss Cisse and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans in their game on Wednesday night.

Newcastle United manager John Carver has denied seeing the alleged spat between Papiss Cisse and Manchester United defender Jonny Evans during their Premier League clash on Wednesday evening.

During the first half of the game at St James' Park, which finished 1-0 to the Red Devils, the two players tangled, with a standing Evans appearing to spit in the direction of the floored Magpies striker.

Cisse reacted by standing up, putting his head near Evans and seemingly aiming spit of his own back towards the Northern Irishman.

Carver told BBC Sport: "I haven't seen [the incident]. You can't do it can you, it's one of the worst things in football. I can't comment on it, I just know there was a fracas on the halfway line."

Neither player was booked at the time by referee Anthony Taylor, but the pair could face retrospective action from the FA if the official missed a spitting incident.
