Denmark have provided the first major shock of Euro 2012 with a 1-0 win over Group B rivals Holland in Kharkiv.

The Dutch started positively and got two early efforts away on goal with Mark Van Bommel and Ibrahim Afellay's wayward drives.

However, Denmark took a shock lead on 24 minutes when Michael Krohn-Dehli fired in low on the angle past Maarten Stekelenburg.

The Dutch appeared unfazed at going behind and nearly found an equaliser before the break when Arjen Robben's low effort cannoned back off the post after some suspect defending from the Danes.

The Dutch dominated from the opening whistle of the second half, but Robin van Persie saw his deflected shot fly over the bar.

Their next chance fell for Ibrahim Afellay, who fired narrowly wide of the Danish goal from inside of the area.

Despite being camped in the Danish half, Bert van Marwijk's side were largely toothless up front and lacked a decisive finisher in the box.

Substitute Klaas-Jan Huntelaar shot straight at Stephan Andersen, while Robben somehow headed wide from Wesley Sneijder.

Holland had one final chance when they rightly appealed for handball in the area, but the referee defiantly waved away their appeals.
