Mexico ease past Jamaica to clinch Gold Cup

Mexico beat Jamaica to claim their 10th CONCACAF Gold Cup, thanks to goals from Andres Guardado, Jesus Corona and Oribe Peralta.

Mexico have won their 10th CONCACAF Gold Cup with a comfortable 3-1 win over Jamaica in Philadelphia.

The pre-match favourites survived a couple of scares early on as Jamaica started the better of both sides in Philadelphia.

However, Miguel Herrera's side slowly but surely developed a foothold in the clash and almost went ahead on the half-hour mark through Jesus Corona, whose effort curled narrowly wide.

It proved a sign of things to come, though, as Andres Guardado steered the ball home in superb fashion following Paul Aguilar's teasing cross.

Adrian Mariappa sparked panic in the Mexico box late on in the half by drilling across the face of goal, but Diego Reyes was on hand to divert the ball just past the post.

Jamaica were made to pay for that near miss as Mexico doubled their lead just one minute after the restart when Corona drilled the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

This opened the game up and the Reggae Boyz came forward in desperate search of a goal, but Jobi McAnuff wasted a fine chance when he tamely hit a shot from a good position straight at the keeper.

Mexico seemingly wrapped up the trophy just after the hour mark as Oribe Peralta was on hand to convert Aguilar's low cross.

El Tri continued to attack with confidence, as Miguel Layun missed with a good chance inside the box before Aguilar galloped down the right and forced the keeper into a save.

However, Jamaica scored against the run of play as Darren Mattocks cut in from the left and curled a low shot into the far corner.

They couldn't create a grandstand finish, though, as Mexico held on to win the trophy.
