England's World Cup contingent may miss the start of the Premier League season as a result of their run to the latter stages of the competition, according to a report.

England's players reportedly risk missing the start of the Premier League season following their exploits in this summer's World Cup finals.

The Three Lions have at least one more game to play in Russia after facing Croatia on Wednesday - either next Sunday's final or the third-place playoff a day beforehand, depending on how they get on in their midweek semi-final.

With English top-flight action resuming on August 10, just four weeks after next weekend's final set of World Cup fixtures, The Telegraph reports that the Three Lions' contingent may miss out on that start date.

England's players will supposedly be offered three weeks off to recuperate after the World Cup, before then building up their fitness and being integrated back into their club sides.

There are 40 Premier League players still left in the World Cup, nine of whom ply their trade for Tottenham Hotspur, seven for Manchester City and Manchester United, five for Chelsea and four for Liverpool, while Arsenal, Burnley and Crystal Palace will also be affected.
