Video: Jonny Evans, Ryan Giggs stress importance of Chelsea clash

Jonny Evans, Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand speak to reporters ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday.

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has said that a win in his first Premier League game will be of utmost importance to new manager David Moyes.

The 50-year-old Scot, who has replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in the dugout, got his Red Devils career off to the best possible start with a 4-1 win over Swansea City on Saturday.

However, with Chelsea visiting on Monday the former Everton boss will get his first big test against a rival opponent.

"It's always important to get a good start to the season, especially when it's the manager's first competitive home game," Evans told reporters. "We need to get off to a good start and put down a marker for the rest of the season."

A lot has been made of United's tough start to the campaign, but Ryan Giggs echoed Evans's words.

"In [Jose] Mourinho's first spell at Chelsea they got off to a good start and we didn't manage to catch them," he added. "It's been well documented we have got a tough start but we started well on Saturday and hopefully we can carry that on."
