A report claims that Manchester United altered their transfer policy on the back of April's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Manchester United reportedly scrapped their flawed transfer strategy following their defeat to Manchester City in April.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 to their bitter rivals at Old Trafford en route to finishing sixth in the Premier League.

According to The Telegraph, a meeting was held at United's Carrington training base less than 24 hours after that latest setback.

The report indicates that boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and assistant manager Mike Phelan were all present.

Solskjaer allegedly told Woodward that something needed to change with regards to the club's transfer policy as there are too many underperforming, highly-paid players in their ranks.

United kicked off their summer transfer spending by bringing in Daniel James from Swansea City on a five-year deal last week, marking the start of an era that will see United dodge big-name players and instead focus on up-and-coming talent.
