Manchester United take a huge step forward in their pursuit of Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly taken a huge step forward in their pursuit of Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international enjoyed an impressive 2018-19 campaign for Sporting Lisbon, finding the back of the net on 32 occasions in 53 appearances, in addition to contributing 18 assists.

United have been strongly linked with a swoop for the attacker over the last few weeks, while Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Fernandes's agent Miguel Pinho has flown to England to thrash out a deal for his client as United have now agreed a £100,000-a-week contract with the player.

Sporting are said to value the Portuguese at £70m and are in a strong position when it comes to any potential negotiations as Fernandes has a contract at the Estadio Jose Alvalade until the summer of 2023.

United, who finished sixth in the Premier League table last season, have already completed deals for Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in this summer's transfer window.
