Manchester United beat Newcastle United 3-0 with goals from Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra and Tom Cleverley.

Manchester United come away from a tricky away encounter with a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra and Tom Cleverley.

Newcastle could not deal with United at the start of the first half and the visitors were 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

Evans met a Robin van Persie corner in the 7th minute to head them in front before Evra rose above Demba Ba to double the advantage in the 15th minute, this time from a Wayne Rooney corner.

Newcastle probably should have levelled before time as they started to come into the game, but Papiss Cisse blazed over when positioned well on 41 minutes.

The Senegalese came even closer in the 50th minute as his header looked in but David De Gea somehow managed to claw the ball before it went over the line.

Rooney forced Steve Harper into a save in the 60th minute and five minutes later Van Persie had a goal chalked off for offside.

Then in the 70th minute United had the result wrapped up. It was an overhit cross from Tom Cleverley that found the top corner of the net.

There were to be no more goals and United wrapped up the three points, even if the scoreline was somewhat harsh on the home side.
