Louis van Gaal backs Luke Shaw to shine in upcoming season

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal declares that the upcoming Premier League campaign will be "the season of Luke Shaw".

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has claimed that the 2015-16 Premier League campaign will be "the season of Luke Shaw".

The 20-year-old suffered a frustrating debut season at Old Trafford as a string of injuries hampered his progress following a £30m move from Southampton last summer.

However, Van Gaal is confident that Shaw will come good during the upcoming campaign following his performances on the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

"Luke Shaw is a big talent. He's very young so it's not so easy for him to come from Southampton to as big a club as Manchester United," Van Gaal is quoted as saying by The Guardian.

"I think that it shall be the season of Luke Shaw, that I believe. I believe in him and he has to feel that and I hope he shall show it. But he's 20 years old. How many players of that age are playing in the Premier League?"

United kick off the new Premier League season at home to Tottenham Hotspur on August 8.
