Marnick Vermijl speaks of his unhappiness at missing out on a place in Manchester United's pre-season squad.

Manchester United youngster Marnick Vermijl has conceded that he was "disappointed" to learn that he was not a part of Louis van Gaal's 25-man party for the club's pre-season tour of the USA.

A number of defenders from last season's squad will not make the trip due to their exploits at the World Cup or because they have left Old Trafford, which was thought to have opened up an opportunity for Vermijl.

However, the 22-year-old was informed last week by the new United boss that he had not made the cut.

"Of course it's a disappointment. Van Gaal told me to keep working hard and that everything could be change quickly in football," he told Het Nieuwsblad.

Following his exclusion, the right-back has been linked with a return to his native Belgium with Anderlecht.
