Wayne Rooney rules out repeating boxing celebration

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney says that he will not perform his boxing goal celebration again because his son Kai copied him at school.

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has decided against performing his boxing celebration again because his son Kai copied him at school.

The England skipper pretended to be knocked out after scoring in United's 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month.

The celebration came following the emergence of a video that showed him getting knocked to the floor from a punch thrown by Phil Bardsley while they were sparring in the United man's kitchen.

"My wife went to pick him up from school and saw him doing that in the classroom," Rooney told the national newspapers. "I'm sure you won't be seeing that celebration again.

"I've always loved boxing. Unfortunately, sometimes it doesn't go too well. I was caught on the end of a punch. I wasn't knocked out.

"I didn't see it as a big issue. I spoke to the manager, and he didn't see it as a big issue. I come from a boxing background. I'd have apologised if I felt it was wrong, but for me, that's been and gone."

Rooney is preparing to lead England in tonight's Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley.
