Wayne Rooney has handed Manchester United a boost by returning to full training on Friday after recovering from a knee injury.

United have been without Rooney for their last four matches but the forward is back in full training and targeting a place on the bench in Sunday's match against Liverpool, according to The Sun.

Sir Alex Ferguson believes that his squad are in a strong position on the injury front, with Nani and Anderson also fit for selection.

He told reporters: "All in all, this is quite a positive situation. It's good to have them all back."

Rooney last played for United on Sunday, December 23 in a 1-1 draw at Swansea City.
