Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson reveals that Wayne Rooney has gone to hospital for treatment on his gashed leg and that the forward is expected to miss four weeks of action.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that Wayne Rooney is likely to miss the next four weeks with a gashed leg.

The 26-year-old forward was stretched off in the last minute of the Red Devils' 3-2 win over Fulham after being caught by the boot of Hugo Rodallega.

"It's a very bad gash," said Ferguson. "He's been whisked off to hospital and I think he'll be out for four weeks."

United visit St Mary's to play Southampton a week tomorrow.
