David de Gea wins Manchester United Player of the Year award

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is named as the club's player of the year for the second season running despite fierce speculation over his future.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has won the club's Players' Player of the Year and Player of the Year awards for a second season in a row.

The Spanish goalkeeper is widely credited with saving his side a number of points on their way to a Champions League return this season.

"I want to say thank you to my teammates, they have been fantastic this season and I love them. We have a great dressing room and I would like to say thank you very much," he told the club's official website.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with some reports suggesting that he has already agreed personal terms with Real Madrid.

Louis van Gaal has refused to deny that De Gea could make a return to the Spanish capital this season, with talks over a new contract for the player having stalled.

The former Atletico Madrid man's current deal runs out at the end of next season, which could contribute to any potential exit this summer.

De Gea's performances this season also saw him named in the PFA Team of the Year ahead of the likes of Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and Fraser Forster of Southampton.
