PSV Eindhoven condemned Manchester United to defeat on their return to the Champions League proper with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at the Philips Stadion this evening.
The visitors lost Luke Shaw to a horrific injury after just 15 minutes, but took the lead on the night when Memphis Depay finished off a fine solo effort.
PSV ensured things would be level at the break when Hector Moreno nodded home via the head of Daley Blind, however, while Luciano Narsingh got what proved to be the winner shortly before the hour mark.

Goal
Jeroen Zoet: Made a good stop to deny Smalling with the score at 1-0, perhaps keeping his side in the match. Not much he could have done about United's goal. (6/10)
Defence
Santiago Arias: Caught out by a fine run and piece of skill from Memphis for the goal. Struggled up against the lively winger at times, but coped better when dealing with Young in the second half. (6/10)
Jeffrey Bruma: Completely bamboozled by Memphis's quick feet for the goal, but that is about the only criticism that can be levelled at him. Made countless clearances in the second half as PSV held firm against relentless United pressure. (7/10)
Hector Moreno: Was at the centre of plenty of drama in Eindhoven. Put in the leg-breaking challenge on Shaw and, in hindsight, probably deserved a red card for it, although in real time it looked like a fine piece of defending. Added salt to the wound by popping up with the equalising goal in first-half injury time and went on to help keep United at bay with a committed defensive performance. (7/10)
Joshua Brenet: In the running for man of the match following a really positive display. Coped with whomever he was up against, be it Young or Memphis, and was always looking to get forward when a break was on. (7/10)
Midfield
Davy Propper: Had to do a lot of defensive work, running off the ball and protecting his defence. Not a match where his quality on the ball could shine particularly, but put a shift in for his team. (6/10)
Jorrit Hendrix: Gave his back four some valuable protection to limit the influence of Mata. That United rarely looked like scoring in the second half despite dominating possession was largely down to him. (7/10)
Andres Guardado: Struggled initially as United appeared to target him, closing him down quickly whenever he got the ball. Grew into the match, though, and began to exert his influence before being forced off through injury. (6/10)
Attack
Luciano Narsingh: Got his side's winning goal when he finished off a quick counter with a downward header. Was an increasing danger on the break the longer the match went on and the more desperate United became. (7/10)
Luuk de Jong: Got a hat-trick at the weekend but barely got a sniff in front of goal this evening. Worked hard for the team, but unable to make much of an impact. (5/10)
Maxime Lestienne: The man of the match. Provided both assists, the latter of which saw him swing a fine cross in for Narsingh to nod home. Such a threat on the counter-attack and also managed to keep Darmian's overlapping runs in check. (8/10)
Substitutes
Stijn Schaars: Brought on for the injured Guardado and kept things as solid as they had been for the 72 minutes before he was introduced. (6/10)
Jurgen Locadia: Replaced Lestienne in the closing stages and didn't have much time to make an impact as PSV focused on defence. (6/10)

Goal
David de Gea: Nothing he could do about either PSV goal and had very little action aside from picking the ball out of his own net. (6/10)
Defence
Matteo Darmian: His most difficult United performance to date. Unable to make an impact going forward and was caught out on more than one occasion by Lestienne at the other end of the field. Also beaten in the air for the opening goal. (5/10)
Chris Smalling: Another fine display from the centre-back, who seemed to grow even more in stature with the armband on. Strode out from defence confidently on a few occasions, including one where he nearly scored. (7/10)
Daley Blind: Switched from centre-back to left-back as a result of Shaw's injury and provided the assist for Memphis's goal, although that was all about the finish. (6/10)
Luke Shaw: Desperately unfortunate to see his Champions League proper debut - and perhaps his season - ended through a horrific injury. Made a superb break into the box before being clattered into by Moreno, eventually being stretchered off with a broken leg following a lengthy stoppage. (6/10)
Midfield
Ander Herrera: Never seems to have the same impact in a deeper midfield role. Unable to provide the creativity needed to unlock the PSV defence. (5/10)
Bastian Schweinsteiger: Has been too slow with his passing on too many occasions this season, and was again today. Sent one sublime pass into the box that Mata wasted, but aside from that it was an underpar display from a man with such experience at this level. (5/10)
Ashley Young: Didn't have much of an impact up against Brenet in the first half. Switched over to the left and enjoyed a bit more success, although not enough to seriously trouble the PSV goal. (6/10)
Juan Mata: Made too many wrong decisions when in good positions. Spurned a glorious chance after being found by Schweinsteiger and seemed strangely reluctant to shoot at times. (5/10)
Memphis Depay: United's brightest attacker. Marked his return to his former club with a brilliant goal, dancing between two defenders before slotting home. Faded a little as the match wore on, though. (7/10)
Attack
Anthony Martial: Given his first start for the club following his debut heroics against Liverpool and showed one or two flashes of quality without ever really troubling PSV's defence. Linked up well with Memphis at times, which United fans will be hoping becomes a fruitful partnership. (6/10)
Substitutes
Marcos Rojo: On for the stricken Shaw and didn't have an awful lot to do defensively during his time on the field. Could have been better in possession, though. (6/10)
Marouane Fellaini: Brought on for Herrera with 15 minutes remaining but had little impact as United desperately chased the game. (5/10)
Antonio Valencia: Replaced Young in the 86th minute but was unable to make a difference. Are he and Fellaini really the answers when United find themselves needing a goal in the closing stages? (6/10)
