Manchester United will wear black armbands during Wednesday's Champions League with Galatasaray.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the club will wear black armbands during Wednesday's Champions League clash with Galatasaray.

The armbands will act as a tribute to two policewomen who died on Tuesday in the Greater Manchester area.

"We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss of two young policewomen protecting our community," Ferguson told the club's official website.

"Fiona and Nicola were highly valued members of Greater Manchester Police and the local community. Our thoughts and prayers are now with their families and friends at this devastatingly sad time."

United fell at the group stages of the competition last season.
