Alan Pardew to "punish" himself over Manuel Pellegrini attack

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says that he will "punish" himself for his verbal assault on Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini last weekend.

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has revealed that he intends to "punish" himself for the comments he made to Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini last week.

The Magpies went down 2-0 to Pellegrini's men at St James's Park on Sunday, during which the 52-year-old appeared to launch a verbal attack on his Chilean counterpart in the aftermath of Cheick Tiote's controversial disallowed goal.

Although Pardew will not be reprimanded by the Football Association for his behaviour, the former Southampton coach claims to have his own ideas over a self-imposed sanction.

"I think it was done in a dismissive manner and not an aggressive one," he told reporters. "Nevertheless, I'm not proud of the comments.

"I'm going to punish myself and I've got a couple of ideas locally that will take up my time and money."

Pardew and Co. travel to the capital tomorrow afternoon for a clash with old club West Ham United at Upton Park.
