Roberto Martinez hails Manchester City's "fantastic" appointment of Pep Guardiola

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says that Pep Guardiola's arrival as Manchester City manager will be "fantastic" for the Premier League.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has claimed that Pep Guardiola will bring a "completely different" approach to the English game when he takes over at Manchester City in the summer.

The Spaniard has been officially confirmed as the successor of Manuel Pellegrini, who will leave City one year before the end of his contract.

During his eight years of management, which has involved coaching spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, Guardiola has won 19 trophies.

"Pep is one of the best managers in world football and it will be fantastic for the league to have him," Martinez said in Tuesday's press conference.

"He will bring a very successful football philosophy and he is going to bring a completely different tactical approach to the British game.

"I know exactly what he is like as a person. He is a winner and he has an attention to detail, but now is the time to be respectful to Manuel Pellegrini, who is fighting for a trophy on every front."

In two seasons at City, Pellegrini has won the Premier League title and the League Cup.
