Jose Gimenez hails Diego Godin, Miranda

Teenage centre-back Jose Gimenez credits Atletico Madrid teammates Miranda and Diego Godin for his rise this season.

Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez has thanked teammates Diego Godin and Miranda for their help in what has been a breakthrough season for the teenager.

Gimenez, 19, has made 10 first-team appearances for the capital outfit this season and his performances have drawn a host of admiring glances.

The Uruguayan has claimed that his rise has been aided by fellow centre-backs Godin and Miranda.

"The year has been mostly positive for everything we've experienced, which was wins and more wins. I hope we can continue this streak [in 2015]," he told Marca.

"Most of what happened to me was because I was next to two amazing defenders, who have always talked to me, taught me things and transmitted their experience to me.

"To me, Godin is both a reference and mirror. Miranda's amazing and has great qualities. I'm grateful for everything they've done for me. Personally, I want to continue growing, play more minutes and try to exploit [any first-team opportunities]."

Manchester City reportedly failed in a big-money move for the youngster earlier this month.
