Was the result fair?

Just a quick glance at the statistics above will tell you all that you need to know. From the first whistle until the last, there was only ever going to be one winner today. On what some had predicted would be a nervy afternoon for City, their goalkeeper, Joe Hart, was a mere spectator as the hosts recorded a fully deserved victory to lift the trophy.

Man City's performance

Manuel Pellegrini's side were professional throughout and it was clear from very early on that they were not going to let any nerves get the better of them. While West Ham dug in and made themselves difficult to break down, City remained patient and waited for the goalscoring opportunities to come. They coasted during the second half, but always gave the impression that if needed, they could have taken their performance up another gear or two.

West Ham's performance

There were reports that the West Ham squad were given four days off during the week and it certainly didn't help them! In truth, they didn't disgrace themselves and stuck to the game plan that they were given by Sam Allardyce. For a while they frustrated the home team, but when they needed to push forward in search of a goal, there was a distinct lack of quality in the final third.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Samir Nasri: The playmaker rounded off a good season on a personal level with another positive display. He was at his creative best throughout and settled any lingering doubts when he opened the scoring with a strike from distance that flew into the net off the post.

Biggest gaffe

Sergio Aguero looked desperate to score to put some gloss on proceedings, but the Argentine fluffed a golden chance. Pablo Zabaleta drilled in a cross from the right, but, with the goal at his mercy, Aguero failed to make a clean connection and his shot ended up trickling into the hands of West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.

Referee performance

There were a few forceful challenges put in, but Martin Atkinson dealt with it well. He issued a number of yellow cards - all warranted - and overall can be satisfied with his performance with the whistle.
